Wine for Tasting:
Yalumba The Strapper Grenache Shiraz Mataro Barossa 2010
The 2010 vintage of The Strapper is expressive, balanced and the tannins are already soft and pliable. I had the opportunity to taste this wine a tiny bit chilled and this serves to heighten the fabulous raspberry leaf notes, presumably coming from the Grenache, on the nose of this delicious wine. The palate, too, is silkier and more slippery than of late – I am a convert. Take the Strapper home and flip through some of your latest literary purchases and you’re guaranteed an evening of eye-popping entertainment.
Yalumba Viognier Eden Valley 2011
I love my Touch Wine launch tasting every year because it gives me the opportunity to sneak preview taste vintages that have not yet been released in the UK. 2011 EVV is one such example and it is about as forward and alluring as I have ever seen from this label. The nose is perfection, covering all of the Viognier bases in one sniff and the palate is ethereal and haunting running on for minutes and leaving you feeling thoroughly ravished. Not a keeper, drink this vintage as soon as you can and with people you fancy.
