Wine for Tasting:
St Hallett Barossa Garden of Eden Shiraz 2010
An ex-100 Best Australian Wines member, you will already know of my undying love for Toby Barlow’s sumptuous 2010 Garden of Eden. The deftness of touch, freshness of palate and perkiness of spice all make this one of the most entrancing Shirazes you could hope to taste. Certainly the English consumer has been blown away by this wine not least because it tackles that Northern Rhône thing head on and spanks it and all for a much more affordable price.
St Hallett Eden Valley Riesling 2011
Once again, I am absolutely over the moon that St Hallett has come to play at Touch Wine because, selfishly, both of the wines submitted are personal favourites of mine. This lime curd-imbued Riesling is an absolute work of art with a buoyant energetic, palate and an immensely long finish it is built for the long run however if we all work together we could do some serious damage to stock this year! The bone dry finish and raspingly fresh acidity counterbalance the heavenly fruit salad nose making it a definitive Eden Valley Riesling champion.
