Wine for Tasting:
Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz Barossa 2009
It is a testament to JC’s immense and varied fruit source that, coupled with their blending expertise, this is an incredibly professional tasting wine already. With decent depth and length on board, the red and black elements of this wine are intermingling nicely, while the tannins have mellowed sufficiently to allow you to shop outside of the meat aisle in your local supermarket! As always JC wines reward the patient and I have a feeling that there is more to come from this distinguished release.
Jacobs Creek Reserve Chardonnay Adelaide Hills 2011
In the challenging 2011 vintage the team at JC has made a superb corporate decision. Harvesting this wine at lower sugar levels has led to the resulting creation wearing only 12.5% vol which serves to lift the palate, heighten the refreshing finish and also change the aromatics from the usual honeyed spectrum to that of a pointier, crunchier, thirst quenching style. This may well scare off those JC acolytes who have become used to slightly broader styles, but for my money this is the way forward and I’m delighted to see such restraint on display.
