Wine for Tasting:

Schild Estate Wines Barossa Shiraz 2010

The intense pot pourri scent on this lusty Barossa Shiraz takes a while to compute as your olfactory system works at overdrive. Herbal, vegetable and floral notes pinball around the palate and the length of finish is astounding. Still sporting firm tannins, there is no doubt that this weighty wine will soften over a decade but I can certainly see it working well with duck dishes particularly if you are partial to cherry compote.

Schild Estate Wines Old Bush Vine Grenache Mourvèdre Shiraz Barossa 2011

Made from 70-year old bush vines this heady blend takes the component parts that made the BV and deftly blends them into a well organise unit. Admittedly, there are still some chewy tannins on board, forcing you to head to the carnivorous side of the track, but aromatically and in time I would imagine that a well-stocked charcuterie board will be your chosen destination followed by a careful selection of some Udder Delights fine cheeses.
